	The first annual conference of the Chinese Finance Association (CFA)
was held on September 24-25, 1994 at Stanford's Graduate School of Business.  
Fifty charter members from all over U. S. attended this inauguration event 
of the CFA.  The meeting started on the first day with a welcome address by 
Mr. Hongbin Cai of Stanford, on behalf of the host for the meeting.  In the
afternoon, Mr. Qiang Dai chaired a panel session called 'Emerging Chinese
Financial Market: Opportunities and Challenges.'  Six invited speakers
delivered keynote speech:  Arrow Kenneth, Noble Laureate and Stanford
University Professor, Michael Boskin, Former Chairman, Council of Economic
Advisors to the President of the United States and Senior Fellow of Hoover
Institution, Professor Weiping Huang, Director of Pacific Economic
Institute at People's University of China,  Stanford University Professor
Lawrence Lau, Assistant Professor Yingyi Qian, and Professor Kenneth
Singleton.

     Famous economist Jinglian Wu, Senior Research Fellow of the
Development and Research Center of the State Council of China, presented
'An Overview of China's Economic Reform' for the meeting's banquet.  After
the banquet, Mr. Wu conducted an excellent speech on 'Current Issues of
China's Economic Reform' and answered many questions of the audience.

     The meeting continued on the second day by discussing the statement
and bylaws of the organization, and voting for CFA officers.  After a
competitive contest, nine people were elected to the first CFA Board of
Directors.  Hongbin Cai was elected as the first CFA president, and Qiang
Dai as the chairman for the first CFA Board of Directors.
